Unlike our Inspect & Reflect series where we explore how design systems show up inside products, this new series—Design System Focus Areas—zooms in on specific layers of system architecture. Each session will cover a critical area like tokens, theming, accessibility, metrics, documentation, and more.

I help front-end and design teams create World-class digital product experiences by removing friction between concepts and their delivery. I assemble communities to break down knowledge silos and believe high-performing teams produce their best work in collaborative, kind learning environments. Over the course of my career, I worked on industry-defining design systems at Salesforce and Shopify; led front-end architecture projects at Netlify, BBC, The Guardian, and Financial Times; wrote a book about CSS architecture and design/front-end collaboration; and made more than 50 appearances on stage, podcasts, or conference panels. In 2019, I founded the Design Tokens W3C Community Group, providing open standards for products and design tools to share design system foundations at scale.
